Joseph P. Beilman (BIG DAWG) 65 years, entered into rest on March 17, 2024. Joe’s life was marked by struggles with adversity, most recently with MDS/AML. His challenges started early in his life, each one weakening his body but not his spirit. His greatest challenge was being “disabled”. Originally from Jermyn, Pennsylvania, he relocated to Augusta, Georgia to make a fresh start. Despite his physical limitations, Joe became an integral part of his new community. He was an active member of Warren Baptist Church, serving in the hospitality ministry. He found joy in serving and was known for his friendly, “can do” attitude. He valued and cherished anyone he befriended. One of his greatest joys was working as a bus monitor for the special needs children in Columbia County. He loved each child and made each feel valued and special.
Joe was a man of great size but never bigger than his heart. His loyalty, generosity, and kindness were just a few of the traits that defined his life. He wasn’t a man of great means, but if he could help others overcome their challenges he would gladly do without. He wasn’t without flaws, he wore his heart on his sleeve, hurt easily, loved hard, and was quick to anger. As with all we do in life, Joe did have one regret; he wished he had reconciled with his children. Family was not defined by birth; relationships became the most meaningful to Joe. He was surrounded by family that expressed their love, care, and concern for him.
Joe is survived by his fiancée Valerie Timmons, Augusta, GA. His children, Amanda Beilman of Jermyn, Pa. Jared Beilman, his spouse Amanda, and their child Caden of Saylorsburg, PA. His daughter, Samantha Beilman, and her children, Alex and Colby, of Jermyn, PA. His siblings: Gerard, spouse Terry, daughter Nicole of Scranton, PA his sister: Kathleen Beilman, Moscow, PA and brother John spouse, Kim and their children: Will, Ian, Reilly, Otis, O’Keirra, Azya and Erica of Appling, GA.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on April 27, 2024, at 1:00 PM at the Chapel, Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, GA 30907. Joe believed in paying it forward and in lieu of flowers asked for donations to be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
