Augusta, GA- Mr.Joseph “Joe” Bert Felton, age 85, entered into rest on January 13th. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 17th at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors with Rev. Pat Latta officiating. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service.
Joe was born to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bert Felton, Sr. in Augusta, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Julie, his daughter, Fran Felton Hickman, her husband, Bobby, and his grandson, Felton. Additional survivors include his brother James “Jimmy” Edward Felton (Nancy) of Augusta, several nieces and nephews, and many life-long beloved friends.
Joe graduated from the Academy of Richmond County and then attended and played basketball at the Junior College of Augusta (now Augusta University) and at Newberry College, from where he graduated. He then spent his career as a high school educator and basketball coach at several schools including Midville, Sardis, Gibson, and Hephzibah. He was instrumental in the life of many students evidenced by those who have visited him over the years to thank him. His faith was incredibly important to him. Joe was a member of Fleming Baptist Church and was especially proud to be a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Augusta.
Joe was an avid golfer, loved playing golf with friends, and won many tournaments. Joe’s passion in life was his family. He loved teaching his grandson about golf and taking special trips to the beach, Alaska, and even traveling to Europe and China with his brother.
