Joseph J. O'Connell Jr.

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, November 30, 2023, Mr. Joseph J. O’Connell Jr., son of the late Joseph J. and Kate Bell O’Connell. 

A native and lifelong resident of Augusta, Jody was a 1961 graduate of Aquinas High School, attended Holy Cross College, Augusta College and the University of Georgia School of Law, where he was President of the Student Council. He was a bookkeeper within the family business, Home Folks Wholesale, for many years and also worked with the Richmond County Board of Education. He was a committed bridge player since college, enjoying very lively bridge games for many years with his most devoted friends. Jody loved books, poetry and mastered the English language which he coupled with his quick sense of humor. He was an avid Georgia "Dawg" fan.

Jody was preceded in death by his brother, John “Jack” O’Connell. He is survived by his niece, Kate O’Connell Klein (Jeff) and his sister-in-law: Ginger Webb (Mike), his great nieces, Kate, Morgan, Collin and Codie as well as a great-great nephew, Clark.

We are grateful for the hosts of dear friends and loving family members who have helped, cared for, nurtured and were always there for Jody over the years.

Our gratitude is immeasurable.

A graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 13^th, 2023 at Westover Memorial Park.
