AUGUSTA, GA Joseph R Good, Jr., a native Augustan (92), died Thursday, December 3, 2009 at The VA Hospital in Augusta.
He was married to Ann Hughes Good for 58 years. He was an Augusta businessman, theatre owner and owner of Snappy’s on Broad Street. He attended Sego Elementary, Richmond Academy and graduated from the Junior College of Augusta. Mr. Good was a member of the Augusta Amateur Radio Club and an enthusiastic Amateur Radio Operator (W4HRR) for over 60 years. He was a member of St Mark United Methodist Church.
He was a WW II veteran and went in the Army in March, 1944. He was in the 28th Infantry Division, 109th Infantry Regiment, Easy Company.
He landed in Normandy France and was sent to Huertgen Forest. Mr. Good was wounded twice during the Battle of the Bulge where he received 2 Purple Heart Medals. He was held as a prisoner of war by the Germans and liberated by the Russians on April 21, 1945 from Stalag 3A.
He is survived by his daughter, Jo Ann D. Scott, Granddaughter, Kathryn Foreman (Dave), Grandson, Jay Denton (Cindy) and three great grandchildren, Eric, Ashley and Caroline.
Graveside services will be held Monday, December 7, 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. Dane Wagner officiating. Honorary Pallbearers: Jay Denton, Dave Foreman, Dick McCoppin, Louis Hernandez and Jimmy Williams
