Entered into rest on Monday, July 19, 2021, Mr. Joseph Frances Sharp, Sr. 87, husband of Mrs. Claudia W. Sharp of 21 years.
Joe was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1933 to the late John J. Sharp, Jr. and Catherine Brindle Sharp. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17 and was almost immediately sent to fight in the Korean War. He served a total of 16 years, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his Army career, he went back home to begin a career with the Southern Transportation Authority of Pennsylvania, retiring from there after 26 years as a shop manager and union arbitrator. He then moved to Augusta and continued working in the transportation industry within the CSRA for several car dealerships. Joe was a Catholic and a member of the American Legion Post 205.
Family members in addition to his wife include his brother: John J. Sharp III; sons: Joseph Frances Sharp, Jr. (Betsy) and Gene R. Sharp; daughters: Joyce A. Stewart (Des) and Julia M. Phillips (Lee); stepdaughters: Jana Covington (Jake) and Katelyn A. Hamilton; grandson: Zachary Sharp; and his furry pal: Bandit Joe.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 23, 2021, from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and a graveside service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Fr. Solomon Kaanan officiating.
