Augusta, GA – SFC Joseph William Meehan aged 76 passed away at his residence on Monday, December 5, 2011 after a courageous fight with Leukemia. He served his country proudly both in war and peace earning numerous medals of valor with both the 25th Infantry and the 82nd Airborne division in two tours of duty in Vietnam, tours in Japan, Germany, Spain and many posts in the United States.

He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Eleanor of Bridgeton, NJ and his loving wife of many years, Keiko Meehan. His remaining siblings are sisters Carla Seever and Melinda Weatherby and brothers, Jack and Eddie. He leaves his children: Marine Master Gunnery Sgt. Joseph A. Meehan and wife Lisa and granddaughter Arayah of Bethel, CT; George J. Meehan and wife Tracy and grandchildren Leslie Anne, Weston Culp and Bryce Beckham of Augusta; Michael Meehan and wife Lisa and grandchildren Lily and Jeffery Spence of Charlotte, NC; and Patrick Lee Meehan of Charlotte, NC.

Joe was a Master Mason, a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason and an Alee Temple Shriner. He was a past Master of Richmond Lodge #412, a distinguished Commander of the Scottish Rite Guard a past president of the Augusta Shrine Club and a three time past Commander of the Alee Shrine Legion of Honor.

Joe will lie in state at the Augusta Scottish Rite Center at 2553 Washington Road on Sunday December 11, 2011 at 12 Noon until 2:00 P.M. The funeral will be at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. David D. Stockton officiating. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park with Masonic Rites and Military Honors. The Pallbearers will be the Alee Legion of Honor and Honorary Pallbearers will be all Masons attending.

Charitable contributions may be made the Alee Legion of Honor Association, 558 Broad Street, Augusta, GA 30901.

Joe’s charitable contributions allowed tens of thousands of children to live better lives through the Scottish Rite and Shiners Hospitals.
