Joseph Whetstone

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC - Joseph Whetstone, 82, passed away on April 8, 2017. He was born in 1934 in North, South Carolina to the late Leita Smith Whetstone and Wellie Little Whetstone.

Joseph graduated Clemson University, was a United States Army Veteran and retired Civil Engineer. He retired from both the U.S. Corp of Engineers and the Savannah River Site. He was a sweet and generous man who loved his daughters and granddaughters dearly. Some of his favorite times were spent at Clemson University football games. His love for the school started as a young boy in North, SC. He had the same season-ticket seats for more than 45 years and cheered on the Tigers through good and bad. In Death Valley, this normally reserved man would break out in pure excitement. Joe was a member of First Baptist Church of North Augusta since he moved to the area in 1990.

Mr. Whetstone is survived by his daughters, Tammy Ray (Leon) of North Augusta and Alison Geer of Mount Pleasant; granddaughters Chloe Ray, Addie Geer and Alice Geer; sister Martha Ann Cucci of Colleyville, Texas; his former wife Barbara Fox; and numerous nieces and cousins.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. at First Baptist Church of North Augusta. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in North, South Carolina.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
