Augusta, GA – Josephine Dahdah, 87, died at home Saturday morning, New Year’s Day, surrounded by her family. Josephine was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1923. She was the daughter of Lebanese immigrants, John and Wadad Yamin. She married Joseph P. Dahdah in 1939. She, like many others of her generation, supported the war effort and worked in a factory in Connecticut building transmissions for battleships and airplanes. A loving mother, she gave birth to 8 children. Her daughter, Louise, died in 1954 at the age of 2, and her husband, Joseph, died in 1957 at 43 years old. Left to raise 7 children, she made sure they all went to school and to church every Sunday. She moved to Brunswick, Georgia in 1962 and subsequently moved to Augusta, Georgia in 1970. She resided in the Augusta area until her death. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Parish and a devout Catholic. She worked at Roses Department Store for 20 years and retired in 1989. She was a member of the Parish Council of Catholic Women and devoted her time to the Church for as long as she was able. She is survived by her children, Julia Dahdah Ross, Paul Dahdah, Wadad (Tiny) Utley, Ameen Dahdah, Peter Dahdah, Amelia Dahdah, Samuel Dahdah, son-in-law, Michael Utley, daughter-in-law, Patricia Dahdah, brother, Paul Yamin, 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, and multiple nieces and nephews. Beloved by her family, she had a generous heart and a loving nature and will be missed by all who knew her.
A Funeral Mass will be Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Healy and Fr. Dominique Hanna Celebrants.
