Josephine Laird Ulm
Augusta, Ga. - Entered into rest on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in Augusta, Mrs. Josephine Laird Ulm, 77, loving wife of the late Mr. Joseph E. Ulm.
Mrs. Ulm was a native and a lifelong resident of the Hephzibah and Augusta areas and a daughter of the late William L. Laird and Elizabeth Massey Laird. She graduated from St. Angela Academy, in Aiken, SC. She worked as a secretary at Babcock & Wilcox and in the Pathology Department at MCG under Dr. Walter Shepeard. Mrs. Ulm also formerly owned and operated Plain & Fancy Catering. Josephine was a rock of strength for her family. Her wise counsel and loving-kindness provided a strong foundation for the family to grow and flourish. Josephine loved her family and looked for any opportunity to celebrate an occasion by gathering friends and family. She lived life to the fullest. Her radiant smile and caring concern for all will be missed by those many lives she touched.
Family members include her sons: Joseph Ulm, Jr. (Peggy) of Virginia Beach, VA, Carl Ulm (Gayle) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Billy Ulm (Marcia) of Athens, GA, Eric Ulm (Becky) of Virginia Beach, VA; daughters: Julie Ulm Callaghan Surles of Augusta, Mary Ulm Scott of Baton Rouge, LA; grandchildren: Rebecca Miller, Amanda Halley, Joseph Jacob Ulm, Samantha Ulm, Barrett Ulm, C.J. Ulm, Avery Ulm, William Ulm, Ashley Ulm, Joseph Ulm, Zachary Ulm, Taylor Ulm, Peter Joseph Ulm, Spencer Callaghan, Connor Callaghan, Harrison Joseph Callaghan, Bailey Surles, Griffin Joseph Scott, Carson Scott, Logan Scott and great-grandchildren are Luke Miller, Joseph Miller, Mary Josephine and Jude Halley. her sisters: Elizabeth Laird O’Connell of Houston, TX, Katherine Laird Epps of Augusta, GA; her brothers: Phillip H. Laird, Sr. of Hephzibah, GA, John B. Laird, Sr. of Houston, TX, James A. Laird of Nashville, TN; Mrs. Ulm was preceded in death by her brother: William L. Laird, Jr. and sister: Patricia Marie Laird Sweeney.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary-on-the-Hill Catholic Church with Fr. John Staak as celebrant. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 . The Vigil for the Deceased will be held Friday evening at 7:00 P.M.
