Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Thursday, September 10, 2009, at University Hospital, Mrs. Josephine Rhodes Agostas, 85, wife of Dr. William Nicholas Agostas. Born in 1924 to Eva Louise Reynolds Rhodes and Frank Harris Rhodes, Mrs. Agostas was a native of Siloam, GA, but had lived most of her life in Augusta. She was a teacher and later, a librarian at Davidson Fine Arts School.

Jo was an active member of Pine Needle Garden Club and a Georgia Master Gardener. She enjoyed planting flowers and herbs, reflected by the beautiful garden at her home and historic Meadow Garden. She researched her family line to the Magna Charta. As a member of the National Society DAR and Augusta Genealogical Society, she adored history and eagerly educated those around her. Jo was also a member of The National Society Colonial Dames, The National Society Magna Charta, Historic Augusta, The Augusta Museum of History, The Augusta Council of Garden Clubs, The Richmond County Medical Society Alliance, and the First Baptist Church of Augusta. She will be missed, but her life, celebrated by those whom she loved.

Family members in addition to her husband include her son: William N. Agostas, Jr. of Augusta; daughter: Eve Agostas Garren and husband Crane of Augusta; grandchildren: William N. (Nick) Agostas III of Columbia, SC, Haley Rae Agostas of Charleston, SC, Samantha Greer Groves and husband Shane of Macon, GA, William Crane Garren III and great-grandson: William N. (Will) Agostas IV.

Graveside service will be held Monday, September 14, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Dr. Greg DeLoach and Dr. R.J. Robinson officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church Master Landscaping Committee 3500 Walton Way Ext., Augusta (30909), Meadow Garden Landscaping Fund c/o Mrs. Bea Fischer P.O. Box 1356, Gainsville, GA 30503-1356, or your favorite charity.
