Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, August 18, 2023, Mrs. Marilyn Joy Thompson Jones, 72, loving wife of the late Dennis Harrell Jones, MD. Joy was a wonderful, caring mother and sweet friend to others.

Joy was born in Atlanta, GA. She spent her childhood in Ecuador with her missionary parents, the late Cameron and Dell Thompson of Pan American Testament League. She was a graduate of Georgia Baptist Nursing School and the Medical College of Georgia Nursing School where she earned a Bachelors in Nursing.

Family members in addition to her husband include her children: Jennifer Faith Jones and Cameron Frank Jones; and grandson: Dylan Alexander Pryor; sister Faith Eugenia Thompson PhD, deceased; sister Gloria Hope Thompson Barrere; son Jonathan Cameron Barrere (Dina), Joshua Donald Barrere (Jamie), Joel David Barrere (Angela), Joseph (Bo) Zachary Barrere (Brittney), and 14 grandchildren; sister in law: Jan Jones Hitchcock (Phinny);brothers in law: Philip Frank Jones (Julie), Paul Vernon Jones (Joy); nieces and nephews: Rebecca Hitchcock Mitchell (David), John Christopher Hitchcock (Kelly), Stephen Frank Hitchcock (Haley), Jacquelyn Jones Whetzel (Josh), Christopher Bond Jones (Caroline), Leah Jones Copham (Brian), Paul Vernon Jones, Jr.(Christin) and many great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Dr. Michael Hearon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
