Joyce Banks Perkins

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Mrs. Joyce Banks Perkins, 94, loving wife of 75 years to Mr. George E. Perkins, Sr.

Joyce was a native of Augusta, Georgia. She trained at Barrett’s School of Nursing and was a registered nurse for many years. Joyce loved taking care of others, her last place of employment was at Doctor’s Hospital of Augusta. She was always active in church at both Warren Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Augusta. Joyce enjoyed caring for her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchldren along with all of the youth at her church. As matriarch of her family Joyce loved taking care of her grandchildren, enjoyed playing tennis, reading, decoupage and traveling, especially to the beach with her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Family members in addition to her husband George, include her daughter: Lee Perkins Christian; grandchildren: Gena Taylor (Wesley), Tara Christian, Jennifer Perkins (Roff), Janet Bruyninckx (Joey), Ashlee Williams (Mark), Matt Perkins (Christina) and Jon Hair (Whitney); great-grandchildren: Hannah Surdiff (Trevor), Hunter Taylor, Jarrett Thompson, Logan Perkins, Tanner Bruyninckx (Carly), Trent Bruyninckx, Tucker Bruyninckx, Collin Williams, Cooper Williams, Mason Perkins, Aubrey Grace Perkins, Anslee Hair, Ayden Hair and Owen Hair; great-great-grandson: Wyatt Surdiff; and adopted daughter-in-law: Kathy Kiep. She was preceded in death by her son: George Perkins, Jr.; daughter: Linda Perkins Hair (Gene); son-in-law: Bennie Christian; parents: Julian and Minte Banks and sisters: Shirley Newman and Dorothy Anderson.

A memorial service will be held Friday, March 29, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in First Baptist Church Cremation Garden. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Storey Chapel.
