Martinez, GA – Mrs. Joyce Ward Miller, 84, entered into rest Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at University Hospital under the care of hospice. She was preceded in death by her first husband and father of her children, Julian Ward, her second husband, George Miller, her parents, Pauline Royal Loftin and Maynard Loftin and a sister, Shirley Loftin Amerson.
Mrs. Miller was born in Manchester, GA in 1926; her family later moved to Augusta where she resided for over 75 years. She attended Tubman High School, was a member of Warren Baptist Church and retired from Western Union. She was affectionately known in the family as “Nana” and her greatest joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters: Judy (Bill) Farmer and Diane (Frank) Sandy, both of North Augusta and Deborah (Danny) Ferguson of Aiken; her sons: Larry (Kaye) Ward of Martinez and George (Pam) Ward of Johns Creek and; her sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Jim Strasser of Evans; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; four nephews and one niece.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son with Dr. Rodger Murchison officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Dale Strasser, Andy Strasser, Tommy Amerson, Danny Ferguson, Jonathan Ferguson and James Hamilton.
In lieu of flowers, and if so desired, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, Benevolence Fund, 3500 Walton Way, Augusta, GA 30909 or to a charity of one’s choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Trinity Hospice and University Hospital Palliative Care for their dedication and loving support provided to their mother.
