Judith Arlene Griffith (Judy)
Augusta, Georgia – Judith A. Griffith (Judy), 71 years old, died after a long illness Sunday April 15, 2018, at Lake Crossing Health Facility in Appling, Georgia. She was born December 18, 1946, in Valdosta Georgia to Clarence and Ebenethia Corbin Griffith. She was the granddaughter of Mamie L. Corbin. She was predeceased by her parents and grandmother. In addition to her parents and grandmother, any further family is unknown at this time. Judy has many friends who will remember and miss her.
Judy graduated from Albany High School, Class of 1964. Following graduation, she attended the University of Georgia, then The Medical College of Georgia’s (MCG) Medical Record Administration program graduating with a BS Degree in 1977. She received her Master of Education Degree in 1985 from Augusta College.
She was employed as an Instructor in the Medical Records Administration program at MCG from September 1978 until July 1986 when she was promoted to Assistant Professor, a position that she held through June 1991. She then transferred into the MCG Hospital’s Health Information Management Services and worked as an Education Program Specialist until she left June 30, 1996. Judy was subsequently employed at Georgia Regional Hospital at Augusta / East Central Regional Hospital as the Director of Health Information Management from September 1996 until her retirement on November 30, 2014. During her career, Judy was also an entrepreneur who provided transcription services for several physicians. It is notable that Judy followed her mother into the field of Medical Records.
Judy was a resident of Augusta Georgia since 1973. She had a rich array of leisure interests: UGA football, music (classical, 50’s through 70’s, etc.), fishing, photography (including publication of her photos in “The Augusta Magazine”.) She was an avid Masters Golf Tournament enthusiast, participated in animal rescue and fostering, and was a loyal supporter of research for Alzheimer’s and supporting associations.
A service of remembrance will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son. Inurnment is planned beside her dear mother in South Georgia.
