Augusta, GA – Henry Jules Godin, Jr., 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 3, 2023. He was the son of the late Dr. and Mrs. Henry Jules Godin, the husband of 48 years to his beloved wife, the late Jean Williams Godin, the father of Elizabeth Pilcher Godin Kane, and the grandfather of Katherine Jules Kane and Hamilton Williams “Wills” Kane.
A native Augustan, Jules graduated from the Academy of Richmond County. He was the valedictorian of the Junior College of Augusta and graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma. Jules was the manager at Cullum’s and later became the manager of the campus bookstore at the Medical College of Georgia. He was an elder at Bethany Chapel for over 35 years.
A true Francophile, Jules loved all things French…the language, the cuisine, the cities, the countryside, the coast, the porcelain, the art, the antiques, the history of his French ancestors, and his friends he collected there over the years. Jules loved Augusta and the South. Since his own father was born in 1876, listening to him talk was like opening the pages of a history book.
Jules loved Brooks Brothers clothes and a shiny pair of penny loafers. He and his wife, Jean, enjoyed cooking, baking, and entertaining in their home. He looked forward to family beach trips with great anticipation, and thoroughly enjoyed the Florida and South Carolina coasts. Jules fostered wonderful friendships throughout his life and was truly devoted to his friends.
Jules was a faithful servant to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He loved to read, to study, and to live by God’s Word. He wrote copious notes, taught Sunday school classes, and held Bible studies in his home. He was a tremendous encourager to those who knew him. He knew where he was going after his earthly life, and he was eager to meet his Savior.
A graveside service will be held Monday, July 10, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. in Westover Memorial Park with Mr. Johnny Gordon officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Peter Hoffmann, Don Senecal, Tony Arnold and Will Schafer.
Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon’s International, P.O. Box 14774, Augusta, Ga 30919 or St Jude’s, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.
