Grovetown, GA – Entered into rest on Monday, December 9th 2013 at Trinity Hospital, Mr. Julian Edward Rickerson, 78, was born in Augusta, Georgia on July 6, 1935. After he served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War, he returned home to join the Augusta Police Department and later the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. He later worked in Construction until he retired.

Mr. Rickerson always enjoyed spending time with his family watching a golf game, a good movie on TV or spending time camping at the lake. He also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren discussing their days activities and hearing about what was going on with them. He enjoyed cooking for family and church functions and loved to barbecue He always had time for everyone, an ear to listen and a shoulder to lean on. His children and grandchildren always knew that he was there for them and could be counted on no matter what. He was also a member and a deacon of New Heights Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Hartley Rickerson and Malvin Annie Morris Rickerson, his brothers, Raymond Willie Rickerson and Otis Lamar Rickerson, as well as a great grandson, Devin Richard Grates. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Patricia Duffie Rickerson; his daughters, Deborah Ann Barnes, Vicki Diane Wingo and Renee Walden Rickerson, all of Grovetown, GA; grandchildren, Richard (Laurel) Barnes, Vanassa Barnes, Natalie Angel, Marcie Wingo, Dawn Dewitt, James Grates; great grandchildren, Landrum Barnes, Wesley Barnes, Kendall Crawley, Hayven Stringfellow, Colby Angel, Madelyn Wingo, Nicholas Dewitt, Austin Robertson, his brothers, Vernon Rickerson and Thomas Rickerson, and his sisters, Louise Rickerson Heaton, and Lynda Rickerson Allen. He had many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, at 12:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Home, 214 Davis Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
