Evans, GA – Entered into eternal rest Monday, March 21, 2011, Mrs. Julie Poe Brownell, 69, wife of Dr. George H. Brownell, PhD.

Mrs. Brownell was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church and was very involved in many aspects of her church throughout the years. She had a deep love for her family, faith, friends, animals and travel. Her travels included Africa, Egypt, and China.

Mrs. Brownell began her career in Medical Technology at the Medical College of Georgia in 1967 and then transferred to University Hospital in 1969. She was a Certified Medical Technologist (MT, SH, (ASCP)), at University Hospital in the Department of Laboratory Services for 39 years. During those years she worked full time for 26 years, taking an early retirement in 1965, and then continuing as a PRN Tech for 13 years. She was the Manager of the Hematology Laboratory most of these years and developed the First Clinical Flow Cytometry Lab in the Augusta Medical Community in 1987, which was the newest diagnostic tool in clinical services at that time for identifying abnormal Hematologic disorders.

Family members in addition to her husband include son, Brian S. Ryken (Zenobia); daughter, Tara Brownell; grandchildren: Maggie, Devin, Erin and Jack; brother, Tom Poe; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Tom and Cindy Brownell; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank her supportive and loving neighbors and friends and a special thank you to her caretaker DeAnne.

A Memorial service will be held Friday, March 25, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Steven Olson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Augusta Humane Society, PO Box 12035, Augusta, GA 30914, and/or Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3703 Old Petersburg Road, Augusta, GA 30907.
