Katharine S. Colgan

Augusta, GA - Katharine Suber Colgan, 85, loving wife of LTC David J. Colgan, USAF retired, entered into rest on February 8, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease.

Katharine was a native of Augusta, Ga. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. She was a member of the Apron Ministry and was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Katharine graduated from The Barrett School of Nursing in Augusta. She worked as an RN at University Hospital in Augusta and Grady Hospital in Atlanta until she married David and dedicated her life to raising her children. Later in life she returned to work at the Medical College of Georgia. For Katharine, nursing was a vocation not a career. Her greatest virtue was her ability to care for others. Katharine touched innumerable lives with her kindness and selfless acts of love. Katharine was a member of a dying breed, a true southern lady. Her many caregivers will remember her for her consummate grace even while suffering. She was so loved by all of them.

Family members include her children: Katharine C. Doss (Travis), Anna C. Vincent (Shawn), and David T. Colgan (Tyler); grandchildren: Will Doss, Kay Doss, Patrick Vincent, Connor Vincent, Elizabeth Colgan and Caroline Colgan; brother: Harry Suber; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Colgan and her brother, Jerry Suber.
The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Agape Hospice, especially Tracy Murray, as well as all the caregivers at Thrive at Augusta. A special thank you to Scarlett Latislaw.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, February 11, 2023, at 12:00 noon at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross celebrant. Interment will follow in Hammond Cemetery in Beech Island, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church, St. Mary on the Hill Catholic School or The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet.

A Rosary service will be Friday evening, February 10, 2023, at 6:00 P.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church.
