Kathryn Bryson Trapnell Carter entered eternal rest surrounded by her family on Friday, November 1st, 2024, the Feast of All Saints.
She was born on March 22, 1933, in Augusta, GA to Edgar Poe and Marguerite Bryson Trapnell. She attended local public schools and graduated from Tubman High School for girls in 1951. Soon after graduation, she met and married Lawrence McNiell Carter at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church. Larry's Navy career took them to Pensacola, FL and Portsmouth, VA. After his service, they returned to Augusta to raise their family. Kathryn and Larry were active members of Sacred Heart Church and school where they developed lifelong friendships with Fr. Herbert Wellmeier and Monsignor P. James Costigan (both now deceased). They remained until the amalgamation of the downtown churches forced the closing of Sacred Heart and then became devoted members of Most Holy Trinity (formerly St. Patrick's). Kathryn most recently attended St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown with her children where she was warmly greeted each week by Fr. Mike Ingram, recently deceased.
Kathryn was the epitome of a gracious, Southern lady with her easy-going manner, her Southern charm and her ever-present smile. She fiercely loved God, her Church and her family of four children and their spouses: Debbie Carter Vernon (Mike), Larry Carter (Mary), Ginger Carter Trulock (Woody) and Kristen Carter Beckham (Bill). She was a loving Mema to her 13 grandchildren: David (Marlo), Julia, Sarah Vernon; Niell (Jenn), Stuart (McKenzie), Patrick (Katie), Stephen Carter; Ross (Britt), Bryson Trulock; Markie Beckham Rooyakkers (Steven), Carter, Dalton (Megan) Beckham and Kallie Beckham Manley (Jake) and 25 great grandchildren. Kathryn is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Larry, who passed away in 2007, and her parents, she is predeceased by her siblings, Edgar Trapnell, Virginia (Teet) Murray and Bryson Trapnell.
The family would like to thank the staff of Georgia Hospice Care, especially Tracye Murray and Sidney Corbitt, for the compassionate care shown to our mother. We also thank additional caregivers who cared for Mom: Sandra Whiting, Danethia Hinkins, Ranesia Brown, Jada Coleman, Kia Adams and the staff of Camellia Walk. We send love and appreciation to Fr. Michael Lubinsky who loved her as a bonus mom!!
The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, November 7, at 2:00 pm at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Fr. Mark Ross celebrant and assisted by Deacon Daniel J. Craig, both long time family friends. The Rite of Christian Burial will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her 9 grandsons.
The Vigil for the Deceased and Holy Rosary will be held at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors on Wednesday, November 6th at 6:30 pm with visitation beginning at 5:00 pm.
