Augusta, GA-Kathryn Langley Morris, 89, took the hand of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and entered her heavenly home on June 5, 2014. Born on October 12, 1924, she lived in Augusta all her life. For nearly 60 years she was the loving wife of Harry Jackson Morris, Sr., who preceded her in death.
Kathryn loved her family beyond measure and possessed a true servant's heart that she demonstrated by always caring for those around her. She was the sole caregiver for her mother through a long terminal illness and cared for her loving husband through his passing. She was a constant source of comfort for her three children and a loving, Godly influence for her eight grandchildren. Kathryn was a comforter who could always be depended upon to help those in need. She was a life-long member of Warren Baptist Church where she ministered for many years to shut-ins and those confined to nursing homes through faithful visits, loving hugs and gifts. Attending to the helpless, lonely and forgotten was her special joy and is a testament to her self-sacrificing spirit.
Kathryn enjoyed sewing, cooking, care giving and canning food from her husband's garden. Many people from near and far had contact with Kathryn without knowing her since her family parked cars for the Masters Golf Tournament at her Heath Drive home for nearly forty years.
Kathryn is survived by three children: Charlotte Jenkins (Wayne), Jack Morris (Marilynn), and Beth Newman all of Augusta; eight grandchildren: Allison Monroe (Eli) of Whispering Pines, NC, Kellie Van Horn (Christian) of Midlothian, VA, Timothy Jenkins (Jessica) of Augusta, Jennifer Getts of Evans, Meredith Hinson (Josh) of Grovetown, Kimberly Hensley (Ryan) of Augusta, Chandler and Langley Newman both of Augusta; ten great grandchildren: Maddie and Wyatt Monroe, Elijah and John Daniel Getts, Judah and Andrew Hinson, Ethan and Julia Jenkins, Arya Hensley, and Coulter Van Horn; brother: Col. Derwent Langley (Ret.) of Marietta, GA. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by parents Derwent Langley and Hattie Rhodes Langley of Augusta and sister-in-law, Salley Langley of Marietta, GA.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, GA, with the Rev. Dr. David McKinley and Rev. Dave Dillard officiating. The family will receive friends in the Chapel one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Warren Baptist Church.
Special thanks to the staff of Heartland Village at ElmCroft of Martinez and The Place on Pleasant Home Road for their love and care for Kathryn and the family through difficult but precious days. You are God's angels!
