Evans, GA - On Monday, March 25, 2024, Kathryn J. McKie passed away peacefully at the age of 102.  She was born in Augusta, GA and spent most of her life there. 

A service for Kathryn will be held Thursday, March 28, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Kathryn was a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  She was known for her kind and caring nature, as well as her spunk and determination.  Until her recent fall and subsequent surgery, she astonished everyone with her memory, quick wit, and ability to still do the newspaper crossword puzzle every day.   She loved to paint, sew, and garden.   In 1983, she retired from the Richmond County Board of Education, but continued to be actively involved in her community and church until recent years.

Kathryn is survived by her son, A.B. “Butch” McKie (Carolyn) and daughter, Genie (Frank) Spears, as well as grandsons Scott McKie, Jason Spears, Ryan Spears, and 4 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, A.B. ”Bib” McKie.

The family is grateful for the loving care Kathryn received from the staff of both The Claiborne at West Lake and Stevens Park Rehab & Health.
