Susie Kathleen Johnson Arnold
“Kathy”
AUGUSTA, GA – Kathy Arnold, 71, entered into Heaven on Saturday, January 9, 2021, after a brief illness. All that knew Kathy loved her, and they KNEW she loved them. She touched so many lives with her servant’s heart, always loving those around her and driven to do whatever it takes when someone needed her.
Kathy was a loving wife of 48 years to her husband David. She was a true example of a Proverbs 31 woman, and such a blessing to her family: daughters Lisa Arnold McCollum (CJ) and Ashley Arnold Zobrosky (Mark); grandchildren Kathleen Diane McCollum, Fleming David McCollum, Caroline Grace McCollum; Maci Marie Zobrosky, Harper Ann Zobrosky, and Cayden David Zobrosky.
Her great love extended to her nephew Robert “Bob” Dixon; nieces Robin Dixon Stringer, Stephanie Dixon Newton, Holly Arnold Rippy, Candace Arnold Taberner, Megan Arnold Hooker and Emily Arnold; all their families; and very special friend Cinda Oldenkamp. Kathy was always quick to help her brother-in-law, Robert Dixon.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, William S. Johnson, Jr., and Juanita (Nina) Jones Johnson, and sisters Janice Johnson Dixon and Shirley Ann Johnson.
An amazing mother, Kathy never missed any games, pageants or swim meets even though she worked two jobs most her life. Later, her grandchildren were her everything. She was the best Nini, making every occasion, big or small, a celebration.
A native and lifelong resident of Augusta, Kathy was an elementary and preschool teacher for 38 years. She loved teaching and her students, and especially enjoyed running into them in the community.
Kathy was known for her huge heart, her adorable laugh, her fashion, and especially, her shoes. She was Lisa’s right hand and partner in her production career, working at countless fashion events across the CSRA.
Kathy’s heart for service was most evident at First Baptist Church of Augusta where she was the church’s Wedding Director, a faithful servant of the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen and St. John Towers. She especially loved her sisters in the Grace Class and the memories of their kayaking trip down Lake Olmstead.
From their honeymoon trip in 1973 until their 2020 trip with the entire family, Kathy’s favorite place on earth was Hilton Head, SC. Kathy also loved Disney World, and her family joked that she should work there when she retired because she genuinely made everybody feel so happy.
Unconditional love defined Kathy. She is now with her Savior and we know He is thanking her for all of the service she did in His name and for His glory. We know that “God turns all things into good for those who love Him.” Romans 8:28
Thank you all for getting on your knees in prayer for Kathy. Your prayers were not in vain.
A celebration of Kathy’s life will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Augusta, 3500 Walton Way Extension, Augusta, GA 30909, or to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the CSRA, 206 Milledge Road, Augusta, GA 30904.
