March 31, 1938 — June 24, 2023

Kay G. Sapp

At sunset on June 24th, 2023, Kathryn Gustin “Kay” Sapp, surrounded by her four children and husband, went home to be with Jesus.

She will be celebrated in life by her husband and best friend of 57 years, Theron Coleman Sapp Sr., her children Jan Archambault (Andrew), Theron Sapp (Tracy), Wade Sapp (Casey), Molly Blumenthal (Bobby) and 11 grandchildren. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Barnes DeFore and Ralph Edward Gustin, Sr. and her brother Ralph Edward Gustin, Jr.

Kay was born March 31, 1938, in Macon, Georgia. She graduated from A.L. Miller High School and then attended Mercer University and The University of Florida. On December 29, 1965, she married the love of her life, Theron Sapp.

Throughout her life, Kay touched many people in her community. After college, she was a member of the Cypress Garden Ski Team. When she lived in New York City, she was a fit model for Bobby Brooks clothing company. She traveled the world as a flight attendant for Eastern Airlines and the Flying Tigers. Later in life, Kay served as a social worker where she used her empathetic heart to help others. She was generous with her time and had a true love of people, which led her to volunteer for local charities, such as Meals on Wheels. Kay never met a stranger and always brought a smile to everyone. However, with all of these accomplishments, her most important role was that of a daughter, sister, wife and mother. She took pride in each of these roles and worked hard to bring happiness to everyone. Kay especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and encouraged them in everything they pursued.

Kay had many lifelong passions. She was an avid painter, who beautifully captured the people and places that made her heart happy. She loved to garden and watch the hummingbirds visit on her front porch. For many years, Kay spent time showing horses and riding with the Belle Meade Hunt Club and had a huge heart for any animal that needed a home. She also enjoyed spending time in St. Simons, a place that brought her happiness as a child.

Together, Kay and Theron built a beautiful life together. She was a devoted wife and a caring mother of four children. She loved her family fiercely and was the happiest when all 21 could be together. Kay was a great listener and always made you feel heard and accepted. She instilled valuable lessons into us, such as, always be kind, look out for the underdog and know that everything will be okay if you just have faith! To us, Kay was the glue of our family. She kept everyone close and made get togethers a priority. As a legacy to her, we will continue these lessons and traditions. We will love harder, take care of each other, rely on our Faith and will know that everything will be okay. We will celebrate our Memy with good music and a glass of wine. Please do the same and celebrate a life well lived ~ Cheers!

A visitation will be held for family and friends on Thursday, June 29, 2023 from 4:00 - 6:00pm at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors. A private graveside service will be held on Friday. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Kay’s honor.
