Augusta, GA – Kay Burkett Willis passed gently in her sleep and returned to the Lord on Sunday, May 5th, 2024. Aged 61, Kay follows her mother, Joy Powell Burkett, and father, Davis Haynes Burkett, home.
Kay was born in Albany, Georgia, grew up in Tifton, raised her sons in Macon and lived in Augusta for the past 8 years. She graduated from Tiftarea Academy in Chula, GA and achieved a bachelor’s degree from Augusta University. Kay worked as an office manager for Macon Periodontics for many years and recently followed a calling to work at The Bluff in Augusta. She enjoyed hiking, walking, quality time with friends and family but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and traveling. Kay was a warm and loving soul, people have always been drawn to her gentle, welcoming, and encouraging spirit. She will be sorely missed and fondly remembered by everyone who experienced the joy of her light.
She is survived by her two sons: Dr. Samuel Andersen Willis, and Roger Steven Willis, II; her siblings: Joy Lynn Willis, David Larry Burkett, and Gail Daugherty; her grandchildren: Henry David Willis, and Jude Andersen Willis; and her nieces and nephews: Ann-Taylor, Brooks, Kevin, and Laura.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, the 11th of May, at 10:00AM at Crawford Avenue Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the sanctuary.
Kay was always passionate about helping others and walking with them in suffering and recovery. Thus, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hale Foundation – 402 Walker Street, Augusta, GA 30901.
