Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Tuesday, May 26, 2015, Mr. Larry James Gilpin, Sr., 65, loving husband of 40 years to Grace J. Gilpin.

Mr. Gilpin is a native of Burke County but has lived in Augusta since 1970. He had been in the roofing industry for over 40 years. Mr. Gilpin worked for Southern Roofing for over 30 years before establishing L & J Roofing. He was passionate about hunting and fishing. Mr. Gilpin was co-founder and president of the Clark Hill Committee for over 40 years and was recently named CEO. The Clark Hill Committee represents 22 fishing clubs throughout the CSRA and is a charitable organization that donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to many organizations such as Wounded Warrior, Toys for Tots, Fischer House, Easter Seals, and The Backpack Program.

He was instrumental in establishing the first youth bass fishing teams in the CSRA in order to help keep kids focused on their future. He won The Mr. Clark Hill Tournament in 1986. He was also instrumental in facilitating the construction of the Memorial Weigh Station at Wild Wood State Park.

Family members in addition to his wife include his son: Larry Gilpin, Jr. and wife Shannon; grandchildren: Camden James Gilpin, Alexandria Gilpin; brother: Jerry Gilpin and wife Jill; nieces: Nickie Pearson and husband Tap, Ginger Gilpin; one great niece and one great nephew.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 29, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Mr. Larry Hubbard officiating. Pallbearers will be Ray Diamond, Majors Hamby, Henry Daniel, Jr., Larry Chavis, Robert Martin, and Sandy Holliday. Honorary pallbearers will be the Officers and Directors of the Clark Hill Committee: Billy Black, Frank Wodzisz, Robin Whisenant, Charles Lewis, Barry Frazier, Sammy Landrum, Noel Brown and Reno Reasoner.

The family will receive friends Friday at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service at Thomas Poteet. A private burial will be Saturday in Rose Hill Cemetery in Ashburn, GA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 225 Peachtree St. NE, Suite 550 South Tower, Atlanta, GA 30303.
