Laura Jeanette Playford

North Augusta, SC – Laura Jeanette Nash Playford entered into rest on Saturday, July 27, 2024 in North Augusta, South Carolina after a lengthy illness. Jeanette was born December 13, 1931 in Tignall, Georgia to the late Brozier Manassah Nash and Maybell Justice Nash. 

After graduating from Washington High School in Washington, Georgia in 1948, Jeanette attended Montreat College, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Biology. After a year of teaching at Tignall High School, she worked for DuPont at Savannah River Plant for five years. Later, Jeanette taught for many years in Richmond County public schools. She was formerly a member of Crawford Avenue Baptist Church and Greene Street Presbyterian Church and most recently of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. Jeanette enjoyed singing in choir, reading, gardening and taking care of rescued animals.

In addition to her parents, Jeanette was predeceased by her husband: Robert Louis Playford, whom she married in 1957; son: Barry Robert Playford and brother: Calvin Justice Nash. Survivors include two sons: Louis Anthony Playford and Virgil Nash Playford, four grandchildren: James Anthony Playford, Jessica Lynn Playford Bryant, Robert Alan Playford and David Lawrence Playford; three great grandsons: Aiden Scott Playford, Soren Michael Bryant and Sylas Aaron Bryant and sister: Shirley Ann Nash McBurney.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 31, 2024 from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at Thomas Poteet & Son.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Andrew Presbyterian Church or Augusta Humane Society.
