Augusta, GA – Services for Lee B. Cannon ,84, who passed away peacefully in his sleep October 3, 2014, will be conducted Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. in Woodlawn United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim McCullough officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 P.M. until the time of the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Mr. Cannon was born in Birmingham, AL but made Augusta his home for the past 42 years. He received his Bachelors in Business Administration in 1953 from Auburn University. In his senior year at Auburn he was President of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He was a 1968 graduate of Troy University with a Master’s in Education. He was also a 1969 graduate of the Command and General Staff College (U.S. Army- Ft. Leavenworth, KS) and a 1978 graduate of Augusta Law School with J.D. in Law.

In 1953, he entered the United States Army with a regular army commission as a distinguished military graduate. He was a Master Army Aviator. He served in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, Germany, and many stateside assignments including participating for 8 weeks in the 1955 Operation Teapot Atomic Tests in Desert Rock, NV. He proudly served our country for 20.5 years.

While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star for Valor, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 bronze service stars, and The Air Medal (4th award). He also received the Legion of Merit and the Meritorious Service Medal among others during his Army career.

Mr. Cannon obtained his Real Estate License in 1973. In 1983 he founded Lee Cannon Realty Company which he operated until his retirement in 2010.

He loved his family, friends, and cherished his grandchildren. He loved all of God’s creatures and instilled his love of animals to his children and grandchildren. Lee was a member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church since 1973 where he served in many areas of responsibility including teaching 3rd and 4th grade Sunday School children for 4 years with his wife. He also assisted his wife in the Worship area for 38 years.

He was a member of the Betterly Sunday School Class, and Gideons International. He also was a member of the Augusta Country Club for 41 years.

Family members include his loving wife of 61 years: Ann; sons: Chris and his wife Carolyn, Glenn and his wife Marci; and grandchildren: Anslee, Christopher, Preston, Matthew, and Harrison. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lee B. Cannon, Sr. and Louise Portevent Cannon, and by his brother, James Cannon.
