Lee Cheesborough

Augusta, GA – Mr. Lee Edward Cheesborough, 82, entered into rest Friday, April 19, 2024. 

Lee was a lifelong resident of Augusta, GA and was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. 

He is preceded in death by his son Michael Lee Cheesborough, parents Frank William and Cora Taylor Cheesborough, and brother William (Bill) Cheesborough.

Lee is survived by his daughter Julie Henry (Mark), son Mark Cheesborough (Peggy), and brother Richard Cheesborough (Judy), and longtime companion, Pat Long. Lee is also survived by four grandchildren; Will Watson, Michael Cheesborough, Addison Cheesborough, and Trevor Whitehead.

Lee was the owner and operator of Cheesborough’s Automatic Transmissions for over fifty years. The business was established by his grandfather, William Sales Cheesborough in 1907.  Lee continued to work and build transmissions up until his final days.

Upon graduating from the Academy of Richmond County in 1959, he served in the National Guard and later attended Augusta College.  He was a past member of North Augusta Country Club and Augusta Country Club. He was also a member of the Augusta Model Aviator Club.  He was an active member of the Republican party.   He loved all animals and his family never knew what he would adopt next.  This goes back to his childhood days when he adopted a pet racoon, he named Rocky.  He also had a dog named Ceaser, who would ride on his motor scooter during his paper route.   

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Michael Cheesborough, Will Watson, Trevor Whitehead, Gary Gordon, Mark Henry, and David Harrison.
