Leigh Ann Schmitz
Augusta, GA - Leigh Ann Martin Schmitz entered into the Lord’s presence on Friday, September 30, 2022. Leigh Ann passed peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family and many of her friends.
Leigh Ann graduated from Butler High School. She had a love for sports and in particular she was known for her tenacity on the softball field, playing shortstop for the 1981 state championship team. She continued her education at Augusta College graduating cum laude receiving a dual major degree in Math and Computer Science. She also played softball for AC. Many of her enduring friendships date from grade school, high school, college and beyond - playing softball and many other sports. She and four of her best friends have gathered every Christmas for 45 consecutive years to celebrate their friendship.
She started her career at the Savannah River Site as a computer programmer in the process control group. Leigh Ann and her husband, Mark met at the site. After working for 10 years, she left the site to begin a family.
Leigh Ann and her family are members of Warren Baptist Church. She participated and led several discipleship groups and was looked up to by many for her love of the Lord. One of her favorite activities was to minister to the children in Swaziland (Eswatini), participating in three separate mission trips.
Leigh Ann served on the Augusta Christian Schools Board of Directors for several years and was the Board Secretary during her tenure.
Leigh Ann is survived by her loving husband of over 31 years, Mark; their three children Chandler Finley (Tripp), Noah Schmitz and Jacob Schmitz; her father Leonard Martin, her brothers Terry Martin (Abbie), Robert Martin (Becky) and Philip Martin (Kari). She is also survived by many loving and caring aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Leigh Ann always cherished a close relationship with her family.
Leigh Ann was preceded in death by her son Nathan Schmitz and her mother Mildred Martin.
Memorials can be made to Augusta Christian Schools Building Fund or Warren Baptist Church, Global Missions/Swazi Care Points.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 6:00 until 8:30 P.M. at Warren Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.
