AUGUSTA, Ga. – Mr. Lewis J. Hinely, Sr., 89, entered into rest Monday, February 1, 2010 at MCG. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Mr. Hinely is remembered as a devoted husband and father. Surviving family members include his wife, Marianne A. Hinely, three daughters: Ann H. Fairey of Barnwell, SC, Emily H. Sewell of Athens, GA, Martha E. Grove of Augusta; son: Lewis J. Hinely, Jr. and wife Patsy of Evans; grandchildren: Stephanie Bell (Eric), Kelley Marie Deitemeyer (Luke), Jonas Sewell ( Debra), Joshua Sewell (fiancée-Melissa), Ginger Boyll (Jason), Tricia Coleman (Gary); five great grandsons; two sisters: Edell Raburn of Athens, GA and Mary Hiers of Valdosta, GA. and special friends: Kelley Fairey, Charles Sewell, Manley Grove.

Mr. Hinely was a native of Springfield, GA. He was in the U.S. Navy during WW II and served in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Hinely earned his BS from Georgia Southern University, and his Masters degree from Columbia University. He and Marianne have resided in Augusta since 1951, where he taught at Tubman Junior High, was Assistant Principal and Principal at Butler High School, and Assistant Coordinator for Vocational Education, retiring after 31 years of service to the Richmond County Board of Education. Mr. Hinely was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church of Augusta, teaching 4 year old Sunday School for 30 years. He was a deacon and member of the Crusaders Class. Mr. Hinely was an avid fisherman and hunter, and a member of the Kiwanis Club.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Drs. Greg DeLoach and Roger Murchison officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the church fellowship hall.
