Lewis Welch

Augusta, GA—Entered into rest on Monday, March 24, 2025, Mr. Lewis Gray Welch, 76, loving husband of Jackie Welch.

An Augusta native, Lewis was a graduate of Richmond Academy and served a brief stint in the National Guard. He was most known for his career with Jim Whitehead Tire. For over 30 years, Lewis developed lasting friendships with his customers and was well respected across the industry. Most importantly, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a loyal friend to many. Lewis had an innate ability to stay connected with family, customers, friends, and neighbors alike.

In addition to his wife, Lewis survived by his daughter: Nicole Grand and husband Jonathan; son: Andrew Saunders; granddaughter: Jada Grand; nephew: John L. Welch, Jr. and wife Nikki; great-nieces: Madi and Aubrey Welch; brother-in-law: Sam Kelly and sister-in-law: Joanne Dyson and husband Bobby; and other loving family members. Lewis was preceded in death by parents: Lester W. Welch and Mildred Baker Welch and brother: John L. Welch, Sr.

A funeral service will be held in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral Directors at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 30, 2025 with Rev. Manuel Bailey officiating. Burial will be private. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Whitehead, Jr., Chris Hodges, Mike Rice, Cecil Wall, Chris Williams, Cory Cliatt, Burt Harrison, Nardy Thomas, and Steve Blake.
