Linda Jo Comer Smith

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, Mrs. Linda Jo Comer Smith, 72, loving wife of Mr. John Terence “Terry” Smith.

Linda (also affectionately known as Weezer to her grandchildren, and Mama Linda to many) was a woman of light and laughter. Known for her quick wit and ability to bring a smile to anyone’s face (especially when children were involved), Linda is loved and missed by many.

Linda was an adoring wife to her husband of forty-four years, and doting mother to her three girls, and a loving Weezer to her nine grandchildren.

A retired pediatric nurse, Linda always sought to care for those around her in whatever ways she was able. Her passion for people led her many times to minister in Belize with Quest Church and Take Heart Ministries. In Belize and always, Linda engaged with anyone she could, looking for ways to be the light of Christ to everyone she encountered. So many, here and abroad, were blessed by her openness and willingness to share her faith in Jesus. That faith was nurtured at her longtime church home, Aldersgate United Methodist.

She loved the outdoors, whether it was her own backyard, a walk on the beach, or a hike on a Smoky Mountain trail. She cherished her memories of running 10K races and participating in the Bike Ride Across Georgia with her family, but her yard was her real sanctuary. Flowers and plants of all varieties thrived under her care, and her garden was one to envy.

Linda will be remembered for her Christlike compassion and genuine thoughtfulness that extended into every area of her life. Her family and friends will forever cherish their memories of Linda, and words can’t adequately express the tremendous void she leaves behind. She was a treasure, and those fortunate enough to have known her will never forget her.

Family members, in addition to her husband, include her daughters: Angelia Cates (Larry), Jessica Bolyard (Scott) and Ashley Woodard (Mark); grandchildren: Shelby Jo Cates, Leah Bolyard, Ashley Marie Woodard, Cadence Rose Woodard, John Warren Woodard, Lily Anne Woodard, Theresa Jane Woodard, Willow Abigail Woodard and Silas Matthew Woodard; mother: Glady Comer and brother: Larry Comer (Becky). She was preceded in death by her father Gerald Comer.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2:30 P.M. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. Brett DeHart and Rev. John Kenney officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
