Lona Louise Vanscoy
Augusta, GA – Lona Louise Vanscoy departed this life Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018.
Louise was born November 11, 1937 in Elkins, West Virginia to Lela and Coleman Ware. She grew up with three sisters: Erma, Deena and Shirley. In 1956, Louise married her high school sweet heart Buddy Vanscoy, and the young couple settled into a tiny apartment over Whimpy’s Pool Hall. Buddy went to college while Louise worked as a switchboard telephone operator. In 1960 they relocated to Charleston, West Virginia. Louise was now busy raising three children, Regina, Pam and Ron. She saved green stamps and found seasonal work at department stores to help provide their children with memorable Christmases and birthdays. As Buddy’s career advanced, the family relocated to New Jersey and then on to Atlanta, Georgia where the family was complete with the birth of a son, Scott. Buddy’s career took the family to Great Abaco Bahamas, Michigan, New York, Illinois and Ohio before arriving in Augusta, Georgia in 1984. In 1991, Louise re-entered the workforce as an executive secretary for the LECO Corporation. In 1997, Louise was diagnosed with Lymphoma. After successfully beating cancer Louise and Buddy settled into retirement. Louise and Buddy were married for 56 loving years before his passing in May 2013.
Surviving Louise are her children: Regina Woodcock and husband, Kevin of Elkins, WVA, Pamela Vanscoy of Augusta, GA, Ronald Vanscoy of Lawrenceville, Ga, Scott Vanscoy and wife Melissa of McCormick, SC; three grandchildren: Jeremy Henning, Melissa Vanscoy and Keyder Woodcock and six great grandchildren; Logan and Leila Henning. Aaliyah, Arianna and Malik Albury and Malachi Green. Also surviving are two sisters; Erma Robinson and Deena Hoffman.
A private graveside service will be conducted at Westover Memorial Park on Friday, April 6, 2018 with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Taylor of The Church of the Holy Comforter Officiating.
