“Lou” Futrell Gramling, 75, loving wife of the late Zachariah Walter “Wally”

Gramling.

Lou was a native of Savannah, GA. Lou received her diploma in nursing from Georgia Baptist, later moving to Augusta with her young daughter to pursue higher education. She went on to receive her BSN, MSN, and PhD from Medical College of Georgia. Dr. Gramling spent years as a dedicated psychiatric nurse before becoming a professor at University South Carolina Aiken. During her tenure at USCA she received the Lamp of Learning award from graduating students as well as numerous other awards and distinguished honors. Dr. Gramling retired as a distinguished professor emeritus and will be remembered as a mentor, friend, and truly kind person.

After retirement Lou enjoyed spending time with her husband, friends, and the company of several pampered yorkies. In her final years she lived in her custom made casita with her family and an abundance of love.

Family members include her daughter: Stacey Abney; grandchildren: Trey

Flaherty, Anna Flaherty, and Cy Foster: great grandchildren: Riley Walter

Flaherty and Christian Foster; and sisters-in-law: Jeannie Gramling and Patsy Zittrauer. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, William and Louise Futrell, and brother, Preston Zittrauer.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Family Counseling Center of the CSRA, 1120 Marks Church Rd, Augusta, GA 30909.

A service will be held in the mausoleum at Westover Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Gaye Morris officiating.
