Mr. Louis Rutledge Andrews
Augusta, GA- Louis Rutledge Andrews, age 69, died December 29, 2011 at his residence.
He lived on John’s Island and in Charleston, SC, and attended St. John’s High School, Gaud School, graduated from Porter Military Academy and the College of Charleston, and studied European History at the University of South Carolina. In Charleston he was active in Sertoma and served as Secretary.
Moving to Augusta in 1982, Mr. Andrews established his business in real estate and mortgage investment, L.R. Andrews, Inc. He was President of the South Carolina Real Estate, Marketing and Exchange Council and won both Exchangor of the Year and the Ben Gibson Exchangor of the Year Awards. He was awarded the Omega Tau Rho Medallion of Service by the National Association of Realtors.
He later became Executive Director of the National Policy Institute and editor of Washington Summit Publishers, and received the Sam Francis Lifetime Achievement Award from the Charles Martel Society, which established the Louis Andrews Scholarship Fund in perpetuity in his honor. He was also a member of the H. L. Mencken Club and is the author of North Carolina’s Demographic Transformation.
Very active in the Augusta West Rotary Club, Mr. Andrews had served as President and Director and was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a Director of the Georgia Rotary Student Program and a Will Watt Fellow. He was also named an Honorary Member of the club.
He is survived by his wife, Dr. Jill Hauenstein, daughter MEB (Patrick) Shue, brother Paul (Faye) Andrews, sister Anita Hudnel, grandsons Noah and Patrick Shue, nieces Paula (Bob) Talbot, Deanna (Sean) Williams, Sherry Zabinski, nephews Chalmers (Leah) Andrews, Louis (Wilma) Hudnel, Lee (Renee) Hudnel, and cousins Jacob (Maureen) Stroman and Stephen (Arlyn) Stroman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the CSRA Humane Society, Inc., PO Box 14667, Augusta, GA, 30919, or the American Cancer Society, 2607 Commons Blvd., Augusta, GA, 30909.
A memorial service will be held at the Pinnacle Club in the Wells Fargo Building, 699 Broad Street, Augusta, on January 21 at 11 AM. The Augusta West Rotary Club will be honorary pallbearers. Afterwards there will be a reception for family and friends.
