Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, June 28, 2024, Mr. Lowell Ellis Barnhart, 91, loving husband of 69 years to Mrs. Beverly Jean See Barnhart.
Lowell was born in Syracuse, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army prior to signing with the Dodgers farm system in 1955. During his stint with the Dodgers, Lowell won the 1960 Silver Glove award. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta where he was also a member of the Crusaders Men’s Sunday School Class. Lowell was the Athletic Director at Curtis Baptist High School. Later, as Women’s Basketball and Men’s Soccer Coach at Augusta College. Lowell became a very successful coach in women’s sports, winning Peach Belt Athletic Coach of the Year multiple times. He was inducted into the Kosciusko County Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. Lowell was an avid golfer and a long-term member at Forest Hills Golf Course. He was loved by many and will be missed by all.
Family members in addition to his wife Beverly, include his daughters: Liz Barton (Lee) and Carrie Barnhart; brother: Lee Barnhart (Jan); and sister: Carolyn Barnett. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Esther Barnhart and brother Stanley Barnhart. Extended family members also include Dottie Wesley and Tim Treadway (deceased).
A memorial service will be Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. in Storey Chapel at First Baptist Church of Augusta with Dr. Will Dyer officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Coach Barnhart to Augusta University Athletic Department CFH 214, 1120 Fifteenth Street, Augusta, GA 30912.
