Augusta, GA –, LTC James C. Kemp, Jr. (Ret.), died on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 after an abundant life and long illness.
Born in 1940, LTC Kemp was the son of the late Col. James Carroll and Virginia Kemp. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta. A graduate of Clemson University, he served with distinction for twenty years as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was a highly decorated combat veteran. Honors include the Parachutist Badge, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Award with V device and three Oak Leaf Clusters, Bronze Star with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star, and numerous others.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce S. Kemp; three sons: Daniel G. Kemp (Rachelle), John M. Kemp (Missy), and Mark R. Kemp (Kelly); his sister, Suzanne Jones (Joe); and grandchildren: Joshua, Cooper, Sam, Levi and Nicole Jennings (Jamie).
A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 2, 2011 at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church of Augusta with The Rev. Dr. Roger Murchison and The Rev. Dr. Greg DeLoach officiating. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery and announced at a later date.
