Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Friday, October 4, 2024, Lt. Col. James E. Wicker, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), age 102, loving husband of 74 years to the late Tina B. Wicker.
James became resident of Augusta, GA in 1966 upon his retirement from USAF. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enlisted to serve in the Army Air Corps during WWII and served as a Pilot. He was shot down on D-Day and became a prisoner of War in Germany. He remained in service for 24 years as a Command Pilot. After retiring from the USAF, he continued his love of aviation at Bush Field as Operational Manager until his retirement. He loved playing golf with his friends until the age of 92. His faith in God showed through his dedication to his family, friends, and strangers alike.
Family members include his children: James E. “Ed” Wicker, Jr. (Marie) and Janice E. Esposito (Tony); grandchildren: Deanna E. Wilson (Steve), Brenner W. McNair (Paul), and David W. Wicker (Sara); great-grandchildren: Evan, Liam, Hannah Wilson, and Addi, Mobley, Caroline, and Henry McNair; and sister-in-law: Faye Wicker. In addition to his wife, he is preceded in death by his grandchild: Anthony Esposito; and brother: Carl C. Wicker.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 1:00 P.M. at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Danny Barton officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, beginning at 12:30 P.M., at the graveside.
