LTC Marie G. Cooper

Grovetown, GA – LTC Marie Goodwyn Cooper, US Army (Ret.), 81, entered into rest Sunday, November 26, 2023.

Marie was a native of Marlinton, WV. The daughter of 2 educators, she went on to Hampton University where she earned a BSN in Nursing. After college she proudly served in the United States Army as a nurse for 24 years and was a Vietnam veteran earning a Bronze star as a combat nurse. After retiring from the military she worked at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center for 27 years where she served our nation’s veterans as an RN eventually serving as a nursing supervisor. Marie retired from nursing at the age of 75 after nearly 55 years of service.

Marie was an avid sports fan following the Atlanta Braves. She was also a loyal supporter of Augusta Christian Athletics. Whether in the crowd when she could be there or watching games online when available; she was always cheering on the Lions. This became even more evident when her granddaughter started her athletic career at AC. Marie was affectionately known as “GrandmaRie” by her granddaughter Kennedy and others that loved her.

Family members include her sons: Terrill Cooper (Clista) and Charles Cooper II (Jessica); granddaughter: Kennedy Marie Cooper; best friend: Charles Cooper; and other loving family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Lillian Goodwyn, and sister, JoAnne Goodwyn.

The memorial service will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 at 12 Noon at The Sanctuary, Cox Road, Evans, GA with Rev. Bryan Cockrell officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 A.M., at the church.
