Albert Broadus Kitchen, Jr.
Augusta, GA – Entered into rest Friday, July 3, 2015, LTC (RET) Albert Broadus Kitchen, Jr., 88, husband of the late Miriam Patterson Kitchen and the late Rose McCranie Kitchen.
Dr. Kitchen was born in Augusta, GA and spent many years living abroad during his military service. He graduated from Clemson University in 1949 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After spending 21 years in the Military as an Infantry Officer, he retired in Columbus, GA. Attending Auburn University he earned his Masters and PhD in History. In 1975, he returned to Augusta and remained active in the community for the balance of his life. He was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church where he served as Clerk of Session for over 15 years. He was a professor of history at Paine College, member of the Augusta West Rotary Club, a Paul Harris Fellow, sat on the Augusta Library Board, and was a past commander of Augusta Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars.
Family members include son: Al Kitchen (Peggy) of Augusta, daughter: Karen Wetherell (Robert) of Midland, GA; grandchildren: Lael Dye, Ryan Wetherell, Bert Kitchen and Daniel Wetherell; sister: Charlotte Bryngelson and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be Monday, July 6, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church with Rev. Ed Rees and Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church at 3551 Wheeler Rd, Augusta, GA 30909 or to the Alzheimer Association at 106 SRP Drive Suite A, Evans, GA 30809.
