LTC(Ret.) John Paul Regan
July 19, 1932 - March 4, 2010
Augusta, GA – LTC(Ret.) John Paul Regan, 77, husband of Margaret E. Regan, entered into rest after a brief illness Thursday, March 4, 2010 at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, surrounded by his family and friends.
Col. Regan, a native of Plainfield, New Jersey, had resided in Augusta since 1970. He was a graduate of Seton Hall University, and served his country for 23 years in the U.S. Army as Military Police in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions, attaining 99 jumps. He served in Korea and Vietnam; his honors include Bronze Star, Army Commendation with 2nd Oak Leaf Cluster, Expert Infantryman Badge, Master Parachute Badge, Senior Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Joint Service Commendation Medal. Upon retirement from the Army, he continued using his military police experience administering polygraph tests. He was a member of St. Mary-on-the-Hill Catholic Church. Affectionately called “Colonel” by many, he loved his Irish heritage and was a member of the Irish-American Heritage Society, having served as President from 1986-87, Family of the Year 1989, and Grand Marshall in 1992. He was a lifetime member of the Patrick Walsh Council #677 Knights of Columbus, as well as the Retired Officers Association and Military Police Association.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife of 55 years; Margaret Regan, and his children; Meg Whitfield (Tim), John Regan, Jr. (Lois), James Regan, Michael Regan (Tammilee), Patrick Regan, Tim Regan (Lisa), Annmarie Noegel (Rusty), Jennifer Baker (Vic), all of Augusta, Jessica Bell (Griffin) of Decatur, Ga., and 21 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter; Marybeth Regan.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 8, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Ragan officiating. Interment will follow at Westover Memorial Park.
