Lynell McNair Widener

Augusta, GA –Mrs. Lynell McNair Widener, 98, loving wife of the late David Milledge Widener, Sr., entered into rest on Saturday, October 8, 2022.

A native of Columbia County, GA, Mrs. Widener was widely known for her series of nearly 50 paintings depicting historic Columbia County sites entitled, “To Columbia County, With Love.” She was named the Artist Laureate of Columbia County in 1978 due to her contributions to the county.

Family members include her children: Sondra S. Graham, Robert H. Steed, Jr. (Michele), and David M. Widener, Jr. (Lisa); grandchildren: Marie G. Murray (David), Alexis S. Foust (Travis), Brandon R.D. Steed, Ansley W. Maloney (Oliver), and David M. Widener III; and great grandchildren: Emma M. Murray, Ian M. Murray, Caroline B. Foust, and Anna K. Foust. In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Marie McNair.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Our Savior Episcopal Church in Martinez, GA with the Very Rev. Al Crumpton, IV officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the parish hall.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Columbia County Historical Society.
