Mabel Rhoden Whaley

Augusta, GA – Entered into rest on Thursday, December 21, 2023, Mabel Rhoden Whaley, 93, loving wife of the late Robert Walden Whaley.

Mabel was born in Johnston, SC as one of thirteen children to Ollie Lee and Viola Rhoden. She was a graduate of Tubman High School. Mabel was a faithful member of Warren Baptist Church for over sixty years. She assisted with Sunday school classes and volunteered for various projects at her church. She had a passion for sewing and quilting and was a long-time member of a Women’s Friendship Sewing Circle. Mabel’s first job was at the Johnston Mill and later she began working with her husband as the bookkeeper and co-0wner of their business, Whaley Cricket Farm. She was proud of the years she spent decorating and making a comfortable home.

Family members include her daughters: Linda Gail Holt (Bernie) of Martinez, GA and Diane Sanderson, deceased (David). Her grandchildren are: Heather Smith (Josh), Heyward Holt, and Matthew Sanderson. The great-grandchildren are: Davis Smith, Greer Smith, and Sutton Sanderson. Her brother is: Ted Rhoden (Carolyn) of North Augusta, SC. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, eight brothers, and three sisters.

The family would like to extend their thanks to Glenda Lucas, Rachel Franklin, and Mabel’s two caregivers, Eva Gardner and Marian Gavitt, for all of their love and support.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel at Warren Baptist Church with Dr. David McKinley officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 AM, one hour prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will follow in Westover Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Heyward Holt, Matthew Sanderson, Terry Little, Gary Little, and Kenny Franklin. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class at Warren Baptist.
