Maebelle B. Redd
Augusta, GA – Maebelle Baker Redd, beloved wife of 70 years to the late Jesse Carl Redd, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. She was a beautiful Christian woman, who was a true and gracious lady. She celebrated her 99th birthday this past weekend with family, friends and her church family.
Maebelle was born in Augusta, GA on April 8, 1919, and was the daughter of the late George and Rosa Lee Baker. She was a homemaker who was dedicated to her family, making each child and grandchild feel special in her eyes. She was an amazing cook and seamstress, sewing many of her clothes and those of her daughters. She supported her children by volunteering as PTA Room Mother, Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother and Vacation Bible School Hostess. Her kindness and caring extended outside her family, as she was the unofficial neighborhood hairdresser. She also worked many years as a poll manager for the Richmond County Board of Elections. Maebelle was an active member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended the Ambassadors Sunday School class.
In addition to her late husband, Maebelle is predeceased by her precious granddaughter, Jodie Sheridan. She is survived by her loving family, daughters Joyce Lamb (Chris), Barbara Witteman (Gary), Connie Sheridan (John), Ann Thomas (Perry); son Carl “Buster” Redd (Navada); grandchildren Richard Lamb (Valarie), Jesse Witteman, Kelly Fourakers (Bert), Ben Goble (Lauren); and great grandchildren Lane Witteman, Rachel Witteman and Annabelle Fourakers.
The funeral service will be Sunday, April 15, 2018, 2:00 P.M. at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Rev. Don Stone officiating. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and son-in-laws. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Ambassadors Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers the family requests charitable donations be made to Lumpkin Road Baptist Church AWANA program, 2540 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906 or a charity of your choice.
