Mamie Fowler Dye

Mamie Fowler Dye of Augusta entered into eternal rest, surrounded by her loving family, at her home on April 6, 2025. She was 85 years old. She was born in 1939 to Mamie Howell Fowler and Richard Calvin Fowler of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

She graduated from Bright School in 1951, Girls Preparatory School in 1957, and attended Camp Nakanawa. She was an accomplished athlete in basketball, tennis, diving and swimming. She was the Queen of The Cotton Ball in Chattanooga in 1958, and the event was featured in Life Magazine. She attended the University of Georgia and remained an avid Bulldog Fan. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education in 1961 and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Mamie moved from Athens to Augusta when she married Alden Rowland Dye of Waynesboro, Georgia. Many cherished memories were shared with their five children in Hilton Head, SC and with their friends on Carriage Court. They attended Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.

As much as she adored her childhood home of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, she loved her home of 64 years in Augusta where she treasured lifelong friendships. She was a member of the Suburban Garden Club, National Society of Colonial Dames of Georgia, the Augusta Country Club, and the Augusta Junior League. Her love, other than for her children and grandchildren, was being a representative for Portraits South for 35 years, where the award, The Mamie Dye Excellence Award, was created in her honor.

She is survived by her children: Mary Craig Dye Lindgren of Atlanta (Jones), Alden Rowland Dye Pridgeon of Atlanta (John), James Whitehead Dye of Charleston, SC (Mary Beth), Frank Rowland Dye of Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic, and Elizabeth Fowler Dye Moncher of Alexandria, VA (Frank). And her grandchildren lovingly called her "Mame": Mary Craig Lindgren, Chapman Jones Lindgren, Catharine Alden Rowland Lindgren, Elizabeth Alden Pridgeon, Emmy Mitchell Pridgeon, Charlotte Frances Alden Moncher, Joseph Craig Howell Moncher, and Catherine Elizabeth Fowler Moncher. Her sister Margaret Fowler Knowlton also survives her. She was predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Frank Eison Fowler and Richard Calvin Fowler Jr.

A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Augusta. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service.
