Marcia Pennington

Marcia was born on April 15, 1933, in Hampton, GA to Helen Griffin Steele and Henry Keller Steele. She had 8 brothers and sisters: Sarah, Eloise, Helen, William, Joe, Carson, Ray, and Jack. She is survived by her sisters Helen and Eloise and her children: Dana Ducey (Patrick), Byron Hawkins (Barry Coursey), and Richard Hawkins; grandchildren: Lauren Sanderlin (Jes), Zachary Ducey (Kristen), and Ryan Hawkins (Caitlyn); great-grandchildren: Sawyer, Kynslee, Brooks, Harper, Declan, and Bennett; and many, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, etc.

Marcia worked first at C&S bank and then at E-Z-Go/ Textron in Augusta, GA. She was a proud Appling, GA resident but she moved to Evans, GA for the last few years of her life. She was very involved with the Leah Community HOA and was also involved with Columbia County governance concerns and was a poll manager for her district for many years. She lived a very full and accomplished life. She traveled extensively to many European countries, Asia, and all 50 states. In her later years she just wanted to live to enjoy her grandchildren and then her great grandchildren. She enjoyed life. She loved people and had many great friends and relatives.

She enjoyed gatherings and parties and requested no formal funeral, but to instead have a Celebration of Life party! Please join us to celebrate a life well lived and to honor a wonderful lady. Her 90th birthday will be April 15th and we are planning a Happy Eternal Birthday and Celebration of Life party. Guests will be encouraged to share their fondest or funniest memories or both. Guests may also share scripture or prayers. The celebration will be held at 'The Barn at Sanderlin Horse Farm' on Sunday, April 16th, 2023, beginning at 2:00 pm.

Marcia volunteered for several years at the food bank for Columbia County Cares. In lieu of birthday gifts or flowers, please consider a donation to Columbia County Cares or your favorite food bank.
