Augusta, GA – Margaret McDaniel Cheely, 98, wife of the late Allen Cheely entered into rest after an extended illness January 3, 2016 at her home at Aumond Place in Augusta, GA.
Margaret was born and raised in Appling, GA and was the daughter of the late Annie Percival McDaniel and William McDaniel, Jr. She was educated in the schools in Columbia County and graduated from Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. She married her husband from Sparta, Georgia, Henry Allen Cheely the 29th of August, 1939 and made her home there for forty five years. She truly loved Sparta and her many friends. After her husband’s death on August 17th 1985 she moved to Augusta, GA to be near her family; however she never left Sparta in her heart. She kept her country place there “The Ponderosa”, and most of her business was handled in Sparta. Margaret was a devout Christian; she loved the Lord and her church. She was a faithful and devoted member of the Sparta Baptist Church and the Gracious Sunday School Class where she served on many committees. Margaret remained a member of the church until her death. She served on the Board of The Sparta Cemetery and the Board of Directors of The Bank of Hancock.
Her hobby was collecting antiques and making a beautiful home. She loved her family and Sparta friends. Mother’s day was always a big event that she looked forward to. Having all of her family that she loved at her country place “The Ponderosa”, for a big fish day and guaranteeing fish would be caught.
Family members include sisters: Gloria McDaniel Ireland of Augusta and Peggy McDaniel McDonald (Ray) of North Augusta, SC and brother: Thomas Everett McDaniel of Meridian, MS and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cheely was preceded in death by her sisters: Nina Mitchell, Gladys McDaniel; brothers: William McDaniel, III and Fred McDaniel.
A graveside service will be Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at 3:00 P.M. in Sparta City Cemetery with Rev. Brian Hill officiating.
The family would like to thank the Regency Hospice Staff for all their love and care and to her caregivers Stephanie Bates, Michelle Mack, Vivian Smith and Leoto Bragg for their love and dedicated care.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sparta Baptist Church, 9090 E Broad Street, Sparta, GA 31087 or to the Sparta.
The family will receive friends beginning at 2:30 P.M. until the time of the service at the cemetery.
