Evans, GA – Margaret Holland McCraney, 104 passed away June 29, 2023 at Brandon Wilde.
She was born October 31, 1918, in Andrews, NC, where she grew up. Her parents were William Turner Holland and Berta Jenkins Holland.
She graduated from Brenau Women’s College in Gainesville, GA in 1939, with a degree in English and Journalism and was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She later served on the Panhellenic Council of Aiken.
On January 3, 1942, she married Jack Lockwood McCraney who was a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army and was soon to serve overseas.
Her family moved to Aiken, SC, in 1952 and she lived there for 56 years. She was a beloved English teacher at Aiken Junior High School and at Kennedy Middle School. She was an active member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church for over 50 years and had been a member of Houndslake Country Club, the Green Boundary Club, the Pinnacle Club and numerous bridge clubs.
She was married to her loving husband, Jack, for 61 years until his death in 2003. In 2008 she moved to Brandon Wilde. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister, Mary Katherine Dickey, her brother-in-law, Daniel McCraney, her sisters-in-law, Ruth Wade and Mary Anne Jones, and her nephews, William Charles and John Dickey.
She is survived by her son: John “Jack” McCraney; her daughter: Eileen McCraney; her niece: Carolyn Dickey, and her nephew: George Dickey.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff in the Arbor at Brandon Wilde for their loving care the last 3 years.
A private graveside service will be held in the St. Thaddeus churchyard.
