Augusta, GA – Peggy Lewis, 85, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2012 after a brief illness. She is survived by her beloved husband Clinton L. Lewis to whom she was married for 61 years. She is also survived by her three sons Clinton “Sandy” L. Lewis, III, Atlanta, GA; David M. Lewis, Hilton Head Island, SC and Stephen H. Lewis of Los Angeles, CA.

A memorial graveside service will be held on Monday, August 13, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Westover Memorial Park in Augusta with Reverend Gary DeMore officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Athens, GA in June of 1927. She is the daughter of the late Henry Grady Callahan and Margaret Stone Callahan and her stepmother Margaret Seymour Callahan.

She graduated from the University of Georgia in 1948 with a B.S. degree in Zoology. She continued her education with a fellowship at Emory University where she obtained her Medical Technology degree.

After receiving her Medical Technology degree she moved to Augusta in 1949 to begin her career as a registered Medical Technologist at University Hospital. Shortly after moving to Augusta she met and married her husband, Clinton L. Lewis. She was a retired Clinical Instructor in Laboratory Immunopathology at The Medical College of Georgia.

Mrs. Lewis was a long time member of St. John United Methodist Church. She was a three time survivor of cancer and worked as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society “Reach for Recovery” program for several years until her health prevented her from continuing.

She is also survived by two sisters and two brothers: Florence Callahan Lee and husband Buzz of Asheville, NC; Nell Callahan Loveless and husband Don of Snellville, GA; Grady Callahan of LaGrange, GA; and Dr. Tom Callahan and wife Connie of St. Augustine, FL. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
