Margaret Poole Cagle

Augusta, GA-Margaret Poole Cagle of Augusta – who never once met a stranger – passed away peacefully on September 13 following a long battle with cancer.

Mrs. Cagle and her husband, Roy Halbert Cagle, Jr., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June, having met on a blind date while she was attending the University of Georgia. He was a student at Georgia Tech but she didn’t hold that against him. They were married two years later in her hometown of Atlanta.

She doted on her five grandchildren and spent a lifetime in service through a variety of organizations. Above all, she was known for her remarkable ability to remember seemingly everything about everyone with whom she came in contact – every bit of personal information, including birthdates, anniversaries and other trivia. She managed an enormous far-flung network of friends and acquaintances, often reaching out to nurture relationships that would have otherwise succumbed to the effects of time and distance.

Mrs. Cagle was a charter member and past regent of the College Hill Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR), a charter member of the Cameo Club of the Georgia State Society DAR and a member of the Colonial Dames of the XVII Century. In 2012, she was recognized by proclamation by the Georgia State Society DAR for 28 years of consecutive service on the board of directors of historic Meadow Garden, the home of American revolutionary George Walton. She was a long-time member of the Women (now Citizens) of Georgia Power, serving as the organization’s state president in 1982, and a long-time member and past treasurer of the Azalea Garden Club of Augusta.

Mrs. Cagle is survived by her husband; sons Roy Halbert (Tripp) Cagle III (Mary Lynn), William Neal Cagle (Janet) and James Crawford Cagle (Janine); grandchildren Claire Cagle, Taylor Cagle, Tyler Cagle, Caitlin Cagle and Megan Cagle; sister Evelyn Poole Gray; brother-in-law William Baird Cagle; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, William Floyd Poole, and her mother, Mildred Parker Poole.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Thomas Poteet with Dr. Michael Cash and Rev. Greg Hatfield officiating. The Adult Couples and Singles Sunday School Class will be Honorary Pallbearers.
In memory of Mrs. Cagle, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, 1330 Monte Sano Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904 and/or the Citizens of Georgia Power Educational Loan Fund, 241 Ralph McGill Blvd., N.E., Bin 10196, Atlanta, GA 30308.
